Town Hall On City of Yes Hosted By
WBAI,  MTOPP and FLAC

Over the past several months, New Yorkers have been bombarded with Mayor Eric Adams’ “City of Yes.”  There have been opinion pages, statements by elected officials, TV news hosts etc. all pushing for a “build baby built model” in every part of the city.

With the obvious aid of Frank Carone, a developer’s lawyer, who is Mayor Eric Adams chief of staff, a whole host of deregulation proposals for development projects have been presented to the public.  Starting with names like Blast, Gets Stuff Done, Get Stuff Built, and Text Amendments etc..

The main emphasis is to cut the “red tape” and allow more projects to be built cheaper and faster. The rationale: If the City cuts costs for developers and makes it faster for them to build that somehow these added benefits will trickle down to the creation of housing that the average New Yorker can afford.

This is the first in a series of Town Halls to understand exactly what these proposals are really trying to do, how can they be accomplished, their effects and the type of input the residents in this city have. We will also be looking closer at the Text Amendments that have been presented to the public this past fall.
