Alicia Boyd explains many of the concepts and issues related to a district-wide rezoning in Community Board 9. MTOPP initially supported the idea of a district-wide rezoning. However, after this taping as we learned more about the process and how the Department of City Planning operates, we changed our minds. We realized the community only has an advisory role once a study/rezoning begins. Once we invite City Planning to conduct a study we relinquish power and City Planning implements whatever they want! Therefore we’re safer without a study because they will NOT downzone this community!
Note: Through lawsuits, MTOPP eventually stopped the rezoning request.
