As residents comb through the limited amount of information on DHS’s shelter facilities it is not hard to see a pattern of discrimination where\u00a0<\/span>most of the shelters and supportive housing\u00a0in Brooklyn\u00a0are located in communities of color<\/strong>, thus,\u00a0<\/strong>heightening the risk of the destabilization of Black neighborhoods and putting vulnerable populations at risk, including Battered Women, Seniors, and Children.<\/p>\n

At CB9’s Town Hall<\/a><\/span>, Councilwoman Rita Joseph, whose constituents will be affected by both shelters (Empire Blvd and Flatbush Ave (across from Kings Theatre) are planning to house\u00a0<\/span>all of the men<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>from the Bellevue shelter, spoke about the need for the city to be fair in distribution of shelters and not continue in overburden communities of color.<\/p>\n
