Councilperson Crystal Hudson is at it again!<\/strong><\/h5>\n

As another contentious shelter is being proposed in her district, she is nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n

Over a hundred people met yesterday, April 30, 2026, to discuss the planned men\u2019s shelter on Empire Blvd between Bedford and Rogers. Folks expressed outrage and a disgust with Hudson, despite the fact that she is the Chair of the City Council Committee that oversees homeless services.<\/p>\n

Why was the community given such a short period of time to be told this shelter is coming?<\/p>\n

Why hasn\u2019t DHS shown up and explained themselves to the community?<\/p>\n

Why weren’t the other shelters already in this immediate area considered?<\/p>\n

What about the safety of the children, seniors, and battered women being considered when planning on placing over 140 mentally ill or drug addicted men?<\/p>\n

What about the congregation of folks in the plaza that is literally on the same block as the proposed shelter, which contains a liquor store (known hang out of people with mental and drug problems).<\/p>\n

What about at the current\u00a0<\/span>controversy of another shelter\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span>(the Tillary St. Women\u2019s Shelter) in her district which houses the mentally ill and drug addiction and its reports of high levels of violence?<\/p>\n

She’s Running for Brooklyn Borough President<\/p>\n

Some speculated that Crystal is burying her head in the sand because she is looking for funding as she runs for Brooklyn Borough President.<\/p>\n

Here’s what we’ve heard from our elected officials …<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Councilwoman Crystal Hudson<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>refusing to engage with the Community!
\n(She is the person responsible for the shelter coming and a lack of notification to the community in a timely manner!)<\/p>\n

Councilwoman Rita Joseph\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>claimed because it is a block outside of her district, she is not going to get involved.<\/p>\n

Assemblyman Cunningham<\/strong>, whose office is literally between a Domestic Violence Shelter and the proposed Men’s Shelter has spoken out against the Shelter. \u00a0(A liquor store is next to Cunningham’s office, in a small open space which has already resulted in a gathering area for the existing shelter populations.)<\/p>\n

Several other elected official’s representatives were present at the meeting last night claiming to be there to just “listen”. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
